| Ellen has recently bought a group which had been built by a
casting company in Torrington.
They are fascinating, hand
made artifacts from the industrial age - exactly the kind of thing
that she is honoring and preserving in her American Mural
Project. The molds come in all
shapes, colors and sizes.
The biggest are ten feet in diameter and were made to cast
the
driving wheels for steam locomotives.
Ellen's idea was to transform the molds into furniture. Designer Sam Posey and fabricator
Don Bresiauer have collaborated on the project, building steel and aluminum structures
that are armatures for the molds and also function as frames (for table tops) or as bases (for lamps). |
