The piano section—a tribute to American music—went up last week. Necessitating two lifts to install it in a higher spot in the mural, the 18-foot piano features names and scores from 118 composers, vocalists, and instrumentalists in every genre of American music.

Welcome Sarah Zahran, one of our new teaching artists who will be leading Adventure @AMP, a weekly virtual art program for kids in January! Sarah brings together the left and right sides of the brain—with an education background in mechanical engineering and a recent career in visual arts. As an artist, she plays in a variety of media to process and celebrate traveling the non-linear path. Outside of art and teaching, Sarah is passionate about music, running, and being outside.
We can't wait to see what Sarah and the Adventure @AMP kids create! For more details, check out: americanmuralproject.org/virtual-programs.

Students from the Team Success Scholars program at Northwest Connecticut Community College visited AMP last week. We've had incredible interns from this program, helping with events, education programs, and development initiatives over the last few years. And two interns are working with us this semester on our new virtual education programs!

This may be the most beautiful section of the mural—the "Liberty" triangle section, constructed of marble. Noel is painstakingly placing each piece, an incredibly heavy and intricate puzzle that will measure 14' x 18' x 13' when complete.

Welcome Meredith Arcari, one of our new teaching artists who will be leading a weekly virtual program for our CHAMPS after-school enrichment program! Growing up in Hartford helped spark her love of exploring different regions and has shaped everything she does. A painter, photographer, gardener, and educator, Meredith also loves viewing exhibitions, exhibiting her own work, traveling for inspiration, immersing herself in nature, creating lessons for her students, and running her own business. She has worked at Hartford Performs, Green Street Art Center, Charter Oak Cultural Center, and the West Hartford Art League, and holds a Connecticut Teacher's Art Certification and a Master Gardener Certification.
We can't wait to see what Meredith and our CHAMPS kids create!

The major benefit (and maybe the only one!) of not being open to the public right now is that Ellen has been able to motor through prepping and installing many pieces of the mural. George, the miner, painted on honeycomb aluminum, has been cut to shape and is ready to be installed. Edwin, the police sergeant, is up next to be cut.

The lower part of the rocket blast was installed last week—a three-dimensional resin piece that's very awkward and delicate to handle. It looks amazing in place in the mural! Coming soon in the installation lineup: the Mars disc (representing Kennedy Space Center) and the Dust Devil (honoring Mark Lemmon, atmospheric studies on the Spirit and Opportunity mission).

What a blast yesterday! Paul Winter, Theresa Thomason, and Joel Martin blew us away for our first "Give & Get" gathering. The acoustics in the mural building were absolutely incredible, moving a few of our guests to tears.
