An AMP Civics Project with Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas

Have you ever thought of what happens to campaign lawn signs after an election occurs? Regardless of whether a candidate was victorious, their lawn signs go from dotting our landscape to decorating our landfills. When Connecticut Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas visited AMP for the first time this summer, we got to talking about how we can use the power of art to AMPlify a project close to her heart: The Power of Civics.  As voting day approaches, we discussed how to repurpose old lawn signs to encourage people to get out and vote. AMP is taking past signs, priming them, and inviting students to paint them with messages encouraging voter participation in advance of the midterm elections. We’re excited to teach the importance of democratic participation through creativity. The result: cool new works of art that get adults to the polls. We provide the lawn signs—students provide the inspiration!

Admission is FREE. Drop-ins are welcome, but registering helps us plan ahead.
