The entire Scope crew, as well as the iron workers and other subs, have been working high on lifts and on top of the roof in all sorts of conditions this spring. This amazing group of workers truly epitomize everything AMP is honoring in the creation of the mural.

During the first week in May, our education team piloted two collaborative programs at the Rotella Inderdistrict Magnet School in Waterbury. Students learned about Ellen and her "big idea" for the mural, as well as the process of creating portraits of American workers.
Second-graders made mixed media projects focused on their own "big idea,” while fourth-graders participated in a Blues songwriting workshop focused on subjects in the mural and their own lives, and also created self-portraits using paper plates.

AMP was one of six organizations invited to participate in Random Hacks of Kindness, an event focused on empowering students to use technology to positively impact the challenges facing local nonprofits in their communities. The one-day "Hackathon" in Torrington involved 4th-8th grade girls from Northwest Connecticut, who were paired with computer science mentors to develop prototype smartphone apps. DIGITAL STORY WORK VIDEO PRODUCTION INSTRUCTOR
The American Mural Project (AMP) seeks a talented video production instructor for a collaborative summer internship working with youth to create short videos about people who are deeply engaged in their work. Instructor will meet with individual interns and teams once a week, 6 hours per day, June 4–July 30. Planning meetings will take place in late May at flexible times.
Video Production Instructor Responsibilities:
• Teach basics of film/television lighting, sound, framing/composition, and camera operation for interviews
• Oversee story concept development and storyboarding
• Edit with individuals and small groups on professional editing software
• Assist with post-production tasks and contribute to social media presence
• Participate in team meeting and planning
Qualifications:
• 5+ years working in video production
• Tutoring/mentoring/teaching experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience in a variety of creative disciplines
• Passion for helping others learn and succeed
• Bachelor’s degree in film or production preferred, but not required
Job Type: Part-time
Salary: $20/hour

"Like all of our weekly construction meetings, I am always fascinated in listening to the discussion about detail changes these guys are making as this project progresses. All vital moves that are being taken as the building takes form, making adjustments to accommodate PVC pipes whose location impacts placement of beams, existing windows that affect placement of steel, center where there was a structural dividing wall and therefore no existing pier. All worked out but with alot of creative input from Dan Godfrey, our steel guy; John Tracey and Kerry Caparulo from Scope; and our architect, David Shaughnessy." - Ellen

Our volunteers are busy helping us prepare for our annual appeal mailing, which is a little different this year. Newman's Own Foundation has invited AMP to participate in an online holiday giving challenge, which means that every dollar donated by our supporters from November 21–January 3 gives AMP the chance to win grant money from the foundation! AMP's Art House is getting that much closer to being ready for our education programs, thanks to our many friends at Arconic. Construction on the mill building continues, and with the revived space in the house, we'll be able to offer several new programs in the coming months. Stay tuned!

Ellen just finished the Liberty Triangle plywood template, which serves as a cutting guide for the marble. The actual marble colors--three in total--will be very close in contrast.
