About Your Workshop Leaders
Poet-educators Elizabeth Thomas and Steve Straight bring decades of experience as educators and published poets. Their work has been featured across the United States and beyond, and they’ve led writing workshops for seniors and for writers of all ages.
Steve Straight
Poet Steve Straight is the author of Affirmation, awarded the 2023 William Meredith Award for Poetry; The Almanac; and The Water Carrier, which was a finalist for the Connecticut Book Award in Poetry. He is a professor emeritus of English and past director of the poetry program at Manchester Community College, where he taught for 30 years.
Elizabeth Thomas
Elizabeth Thomas is a published writer and performer who designs and teaches creative writing programs for all ages. These programs promote literacy and the power of the written and spoken word. She is a Master Teaching Artist for The Bushnell and has presented workshops for the Capitol Region Educational Council, the New England Association of Teachers of English, the Florida and Georgia Teachers’ Council, and the Florida Literacy Coalition. She has taught Poetry as Theater in the United Arab Emirates. Currently, Elizabeth enjoys writing with older adults (They keep her young!).

Is pre-registration required?
Yes. Pre-registration helps us plan ahead for any special needs and ensures that all participants receive the necessary materials.
When should I arrive?
Doors open at 12pm for all workshop participants. Please check in at the desk when you enter.
Is parking free?
Yes. You will receive parking details with your confirmation email.
Is AMP wheelchair accessible?
I will fill in standard wording.
What should I bring?
Your notebook, a pen, and a refillable water bottle.
What about food and drink?
The workshop begins at noon. We recommend that you eat lunch before you arrive. There will be a short break later in the afternoon. You may bring a small snack to have during that time. There will also be complimentary coffee and tea available and snacks.
Please bring your own water bottle. There is a water fountain where it can be refilled.
Are there any restaurants nearby?
What about overnight accommodations?
